Sweltering conditions did not deter many of the Years 9 to 12 students to participated in the annual Athletics Carnival on Friday. The turn-out was lower than anticipated, but the competitors engaged in the many different disciplines with enthusiasm and the traditional Margaret River spirit of friendly, positive competition, camaraderie, and fun. Most students wore their house colour with pride. The students rotated between shot-pot, 100-, 200-, 400- and 800-meter runs, long, triple and high jump, javelin, discus, and a series of fun events. The day closed with the traditional 100-meter race with handicap. Huge thanks go to Berin Sluiter and the Physical Education department for the meticulous and careful organisation of the day, the Cert II Sports and Recreation students for their dedication and outstanding leadership throughout the day, and all teachers at Margaret River SHS that gave up their classrooms, took and wrote relief lessons and worked extra time to help with set up and clean up.
